The Laugavegur Hike in Iceland through the interior surely has to be one of the great hikes in the world though it is listed on very few "top 10" hike lists on the internet. The 55km walk takes the hiker through lava fields, grassy plains, geothermal areas, black ash deserts before finally finishing at Thorsmork, one of the few locations in Iceland where there are trees! This spot was taken from the Emstrur region on an afternoon where dust and volcanic ash were being stirred spectacularly by the winds. To the left of this frame lies the now (in)famous Eyjafjallajokull Volcano whose eruption stopped air traffic in April 2010. This was the 3rd night of 4 on the hike and energy levels were peetering out quite quickly but such scenery could not NOT be photographed!
